The Pillars: Stewardship – Integrity – Progressive

Stewardship – I believe that we are assigned to be stewards of our economy, our land and our families. We learn and we operate by the education we receive about being stewards. Stewardship causes for responsibility. I am not afraid of that responsibility. We need to be educated us as personal stewards but also expectations of governmental stewardship. Sarasota and its resident ought to be the object of our stewardship. Stewardship will provide for the future economy and the environment of Sarasota County.

Integrity – I believe in all that we do, that we should do it with integrity, whether at work, at home and even with the public, especially when in public service. Integrity is a lifestyle. I believe people trust those who operate in integrity, even when decisions are made contrary to their wants. They know that decisions are made not for personal gain but because the person held to their convictions about what was believed to best for their communities. They know that this person who walks in integrity has analyzed decisions honestly and sincerely and has the heart of the greater Sarasota community. Integrity is foundational to public service in today’s contrary winds of politics.

Progressive – Progressiveness is the antithesis of stagnancy. Things that are stagnant can produce inactivity and lead to ineffectiveness. The county commission must be effective. Progressiveness does not always equal change (at least not change just for the sake of changing). Change must be functional and must align itself with mission and vision of the communities and the county. However, being progressive can also mean going against the grain or popular opinion. Progressiveness means preparing for the future i.e. doing what is right for the now generation with consideration for the next generation.
